hungary’s haunting history

on

After our morning of baking phyllo apple pie, we walked to the House of Terror, a museum about the Nazi and Soviet Occupation here in Hungary. It was very good; I understood more about Hungary’s history, and since Anika is studying in Prague, she is learning some of the same history about the Czech Republic. As striking and informing as it was, it was quite grim.

Afterwards, we thought it fitting to visit the Shoes on the Danube memorial afterwards. It commemorates Jews killed by the fascist Arrow Cross militiamen during WWII. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and shot into the Danube.
